(Video)Social Business: Interview with Eiko Haraguchi of Business Leather Factory

In business, there is an assumption that the profits of the company will eventually benefit the employees, so that setting profit as a priority will ultimately be best for everyone. Looking at the extent of world poverty as corporations earn billions, however, has given rise to doubts. Hoping to do business in a way that truly benefits those in need, Borderless Japan has established a series of companies that focus on solving issues including poverty, discrimination, climate change and many others through “Social Business”. Eiko Haraguchi of Business Leather Factory, a member of the Borderless Japan group, speaks with Japan Up Close about how her company works to improve the lives of their workers in Bangladesh, the goals they hope to accomplish, and the challenges they are trying to overcome.
