Interview with Professor Agnieszka Bieńczyk-Missala: The Role of the UN Security Council and its Future
March 17, 2023
Nearly 80 years ago, the UN Security Council was formed to provide a forum for the the nations of the world to prevent future conflicts from escalating into all-out wars, and to protect human rights. While the global situation has changed radically since the 1940s, the need for effective human rights protection remains as pressing as ever. Professor Agnieszka Bieńczyk-Missala of the University of Warsaw speaks with Japan up close about the stumbling blocks being faced by the UNSC in its current form, the need for a better response to the many human rights abuses taking place around the world, and proposals for reforms to the UNSC that would enable it to better fulfill its charter.
