Watermelon is a popular snack for beating the heat in Japan, and one popular game played when enjoying it is suikawari, or watermelon-splitting. One player, wearing a blindfold, tries to hit the melon with a bamboo pole, much like a piñata. Once the watermelon has been broken, everyone takes pieces of it to eat.
