Japan in Photos – Think Pink for Spring
March 31, 2021
Sweets are popular throughout the year in Japan, but during March and April it is common to see them get a seasonal twist, with many foods and drinks gaining a cherry-blossom flavor and a pretty pink color. The fish-shaped cakes are taiyaki (literally “baked sea bream”) and are made with cake batter cooked stuffed with any of a wide variety of sweet or sometimes savory fillings. They were first sold in 1909 and quickly became a popular snack throughout Japan.
