Japan in Photos – Hina Matsuri
March 31, 2021
Hina Matsuri, or Girl’s Day, is a cultural celebration held on the 3rd of March. Families with daughters set up red-carpeted display platforms with dolls representing the Imperial Court of the Heian Era (7th-12th century). Families normally ensure that girls have a set of the two main dolls before their first Hina Matsuri and continue this tradition until their daughters turn 10 years old. At some shrines and other public venues, massive displays with hundreds, or even thousands of dolls may be set up.
