The 8th of April marks the birthdate of the Buddha, when many temples across Japan host festivals to celebrate the birth of the religion’s founder. Often called Hana Matsuri (Flower Festival), temples usually change their main altar tapestry and lay out a separate altar where people can go lay flowers to pay their respects.
