Japan in Photos - Uchi Mizu, Keeping the Streets Cool
September 01, 2021
Japan gets hot in the summer, so people have been developing ways of keeping cool for centuries. One of the simplest, which you will still see practiced in cities throughout the country, is uchi mizu, or spreading water on the street. The cold water helps to absorb the heat of the pavement before evaporating, and it also cools the air while keeping dust under control.
