The Takachiho Gorge in Miyazaki Prefecture is famous for the beauty of its unique natural rock formations and many waterfalls, making it a popular site for boat tours. Starting from November and continuing to February, the Takachiho Shrine holds the Takachiho Kagura. This is an artistic Shinto ritual performed by dancers and musicians, which depicts a story of the Goddess Amaterasu, and has been performed here since the 12th century.
