Japan in Photos – Sending a Tiger for 2022
Japan will be full of tigers in 2022. Not actual tigers, but decorations celebrating the year of the tiger in the Asian zodiac will be in homes, shop windows, and advertisements throughout the country. One New Year tradition in Japan is sending out postcards to family, friends, neighbors, business associates, etc., to thank them for the past year’s relationship and wish them a good new year. These cards are commonly decorated with traditional or modern designs harmonizing with the annual zodiac, but family portraits are also popular. The number of cards sent and received by each person can be in the dozens, and outdoor post boxes in December will have specially marked slots just for postcards in order to handle the thick bundles being sent.
