Japan is home to hundreds of art museums, ranging from national museums housing massive collections from around the world, to small private galleries displaying a narrow selection of works. Sorting through all the possibilities and planning a visit can be a challenge for Japanese visitors, let alone those coming from overseas. Fortunately, author and museum authority Sophie Richard has done the work for us in researching her book, The Art Lovers’ Guide to Japanese Museums. In this video interview, she shares her insights on what makes Japan’s art museums so unique, as well as tips on how best to explore the many hidden gems throughout Japan.
