An old school main shopping street (shotengai) in Nakameguro

Main street in Nakameguro

Nakameguro Tsutaya under the tracks right across from the central exit at Nakameguro Station

Cherry trees that line the Meguro River

Shops along the Meguro River
From Nakameguro Station (one stop on the Hibiya Subway Line from Ebisu, or two stops on the Tokyu Toyoko Line from Shibuya), I started my day one block north of the Meguro River at the Sato Sakura Museum. This small museum is dedicated to showcasing Japanese-style paintings (nihonga) and one of its features is the sakura gallery named "100 views of Sakura" which allows visitors to see cherry blossom nihonga all year round.

Striking exterior of the Sato Sakura Museum

100 views of Sakura exhibition to make sure that you'll never miss the beauty of cherry blossoms

The Sidewalk Stand cafe sits on a plot of land approximately the size of a parking spot for an average sized sedan

I went in for a cold drink

Sidestreet art

Street art under the tracks heading south away from the river

Restaurants under the tracks

Wagyumafia (which was closed when I went) is the place to go for those who're looking for wagyu sandwiches

The fat kid in me loves the shop on the right because everything is deli.fu.cious

I'm gonna guess this is a watering hole when it opens in the evenings

An entire pizza just for me

I clearly did not enjoy that

Driveway shelter that resembles an aircraft wing

Asymmetrical entrance hall with curved windows, and don't forget to look up!

The skylights here have green mosaic tiles that kinda makes them look like mini gardens

Made it to the rooftop garden where I had this beautiful space all to myself

Looking out over the neighbourhood

Japanese style room that is free to use by all

Onibus coffee when you're in Nakameguro

Grab a seat overlooking the park or one that looks out to the train tracks

A bookstore nestled between homes and other business

Even the underpass got decorated

Used and new clothes shops

Don't be fooled by this residential looking area, it's home to some of the most hip and delicious joints in the neighbourhood

Sunset nihonga painting reflects my feelings towards Nakameguro: warm and rose-coloured
