Japan in Photos: The Nozawa-onsen Fire Festival

Every year the town of Nozawa-onsen in Nagano Prefecture hold a festival in which a 10-meter tall wooden shrine is built in the festival area and then attacked by teams carrying flaming torches. The 42-year-old men of the town act as the shrine’s defenders, while the 25-year-old-men act as the first wave of attackers.
