April 01, 2020

The Tsunan Snow Festival is held every March in Tsunan in Niigata Prefecture. The area gets some of the heaviest snowfall in Japan, and residents celebrate during the last month of winter with snowboarding, snow sculptures, and other outdoor activities. The culmination of the festival is the release of over 2,000 paper lanterns into the sky, filling the night with a beautiful orange glow.
