The Tateyama-Kurobe Alpine route running between Toyama and Nagano Prefectures is famous for the 6-meter high walls of snow that line the bus highway, but the entire route also includes several other modes of transport, including funicular rail, Japan’s last trolley buses, and an aerial ropeway that provides a spectacular view of the mountains, forests and lakes below. The route is open from April until November every year, with the great snow walls lasting into May.
