The Yabusame Shinji Festival is a precursory festival to the Aoi Matsuri, conducted to pray for the safety of the procession and to purify the parade route for the Aoi Matsuri festival. The ceremony is performed by archers riding horses who fire arrows at targets whilst speeding along a 500 meter path.
