Most of Japan in covered in mountains, so it should be no surprise that skiing and other winter sports are popular here. One area that has become a popular international destination is Niseko in Hokkaido, which is surrounded by ski slopes. There is also abundant wilderness nearby, making snowmobile trekking and sleigh riding popular as well.
