The Port of Kobe is famous among Japan's leading international trading ports. Opened in January 1868, the Port of Kobe developed as a berth for foreign vessels and became one of the two major international trading ports along with the Port of Yokohama. Since then, Kobe has flourished as a tourist city with commercial facilities and towers, while fulfilling the function of a major port. In 2017, the 150th anniversary of the opening of the Port of Kobe was celebrated with great fanfare by the citizens of Kobe.
