Japan goes through four distinct seasons each year, and Japanese people change their clothes according to the season. One major change usually takes place in May or June, when the season changes from spring to summer. The second is in October and November, when for the change from autumn to winter. This custom dates back to the Heian period (8th-12th century) in Japan, and many people say that switching wardrobes in this way makes the seasonal change feel more like a tangible event.
