While tea may be the beverage most people associate with Japan, the coutntry has had a love affair with coffee going back decades. The arrival of international chain stores has only intensified coffee's popularity in Japan, and the successful shops have adapted themselves to appeal to the particular tastes of demanding Japanese consumers. Dr. Helena Grinshpun of Hebrew University in Isreael joins us to talk about the impact coffee culture has had on Japanese society, gender relations, and urban life, and vice-versa.
