The Yosakoi Soran festival, held in the city of Sapporo, located in Japan’s northernmost island of Hokkaido, is a energetic celebration of dance and music, featuring parades of dancers in a wide range of brightly colored costumes. The festival comes from a blend of influences, including the Yosakoi festival of Kochi Prefecture, and the folk song “Soran Bushi” from Hokkaido. Due to the pandemic, the festival was cancelled during 2020 and 2021, but after three years it is once again being held this summer.
