Tourism has been changing in recent years. More travelers nowadays are looking for memorable experiences, not just shopping and enjoying the local scenery. In Japan, the Ministry of the Environment is taking the lead in working on "ecotourism." They want tourists to experience the beauty of nature throughout Japan as well as the history and culture of the area. Ecotourism activities in Japan include trekking and canoeing experiences that make use of Japan's abundant forests, wilderness walking tours, and other local cuisine and cultural experiences.
