Support for Startups

There are over 10,000 startups in Japan, in fields ranging from ICT, to import/export, to retail sales, to services, to green tech. Although the number is increasing year by year, there are still only a few companies that are active on a global scale, as their business models often take time to develop new markets and achieve their first necessary steps. In June 2018, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry launched "J-Startup," a program to support the development of start-up companies. The program offers a number of incentives that are attractive to businesses, and the number of private companies taking advantage of this support is increasing. Hopefully, the number of public and private sector Japanese startups will continue to grow.
