The Tokyo Marathon is a road race held in February or March each year. It began as an event exclusively for elite runners, but in 2007 participation was opened to the general public. The current race is co-sponsored by the Japan Association of Athletics Federations and the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, and attracts up to 30,000 runners from around the world. Due to COVID-19, unfortunately, the event has been disrupted since 2020. After the 2021 marathon had to be called off, it was decided that the 2021 race would be run on March 6, 2022, with the people who had entered and qualified for 2021, and that the 2022 race would be cancelled.
