Evolution of Convenience Stores in Japan

Convenience stores in most Japanese cities are open 24 hours a day and offer a wide variety of products, making them popular with tourists from overseas. In addition, cashless payment technologies have become commonplace during the COVID pandemic. Convenience store chains now are also starting next-generation services. One chain, for example, launched an original clothing brand, and selling high-quality, low-priced clothing such as underwear, socks, and shirts in a corner of the stores. In addition, they have started collaborating with companies that already have infrastructure in place, creating an unmanned payment stores in the corners of building in partnership with post offices. In the future, collaboration with other companies will progress, and convenience stores will evolve further.
