In 2012, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) and the Tokyo Stock Exchange (TSE) announced the establishment of the Nadeshiko Brand aimed at supporting companies which strive for the empowerment of women in the workplace.

For a company to be selected as a Nadeshiko Brand, it should apply to conduct two types of surveys. One contains quantitative information on the support of women’s achievements in the workplace. The other is qualitative and addresses the initiatives to encourage women's success in the workplace and management strategies among other topics.

On March 22, 2022, fifty TSE-listed enterprises were selected and publicized on the basis of their remarkable performance in supporting women's accomplishments in the workplace. The industries to which those companies belong are diverse and include agriculture, mining, pharmaceutical, electrical equipment and others.
Considering the recent trends highlighting human capital management and discussions regarding the disclosure of non-financial information by companies in Japan and abroad, the fiscal year 2023 will witness important changes to the Nadeshiko Brand survey, selection criteria, and evaluation process. METI and the TSE hope that these changes will encourage enterprises to quicken the implementation of initiatives aimed at promoting women's success in the workplace.
