Hokkaido has a lot of magnificent natural features. Shiretoko, which was registered as a World Natural Heritage Site in 2005, is one of them. Shiretoko Peninsula, located at the northeastern tip of Hokkaido, is a place that has an ocean with a rich ecosystem and mountains formed by volcanoes. Shiretoko offers cool summers and lush greenery, during winters, the landscape is blanketed in snow, transforming the entire area into a world of silver. Winter activities include walking tours on drift ice and eco-tours to observe wild birds and animals as Shiretoko is home to many species of animals. While Niseko ski resort is well known as a popular winter activity spot in Hokkaido, Shiretoko equally stands out as a popular destination for nature-seeking tourists.
